I graduated from the Metalwork & Jewellery course at Sheffield Hallam University in the summer of 2004, proceeded to exhibit at New Designers where my work was awarded the ABDS Award for New Silverware. This provided a wonderful jump start to my career as a designer silversmith and when I returned to my home city of Sheffield I successfully gained a place on the Sheffield Assay Office ‘Silversmith Starter Scheme' based at Persistence Works, Sheffield. Since that time I have undertaken commissions ranging from ecclesiastical to corporate giftware. I work mainly to commission, taking special note of the function and handling requirements of each piece I produce. Setting and solving design problems is at the centre of my mathematical approach; currently, I am interested in lifting vessels above the horizontal plane of the table top so that they float or hover visually.
